Artist Hermann Trappman offers a glimpse of early Florida, its unique geography, wildlife and native peoples, just prior to and after the first contact with European explorers in 1513. Trappman’s work explores the everyday life of Florida’s first inhabitants and is based on actual artifacts, fossil remains and other archaeological evidence found in Florida. Exhibit on loan from the Neily Trappman Studio.

The works of glass sculptor Henry Richardson will be exhibited starting February 28 at the Philharmonic Center for the Arts. Richardson, who was named 2012 Artist of the Year by the Design Center of the Americas, painstakingly hand chisels plates of glass that have been fused together using a high-intensity light welding process to create icy-looking orbs and towers. The exhibition will feature three giant orbs and three towers, which have been his signature forms for the past 15 years.

The tiny island of Goodland, Florida, has been a special source of inspiration for local award-winning oil-painter Tara O’Neill for many years. This exhibition relates her most intimate views, current and historic, of a working fishing village afloat with brilliant flora and a range of feathered-fauna; where old-growth trees dwarf candy-colored cottages, where docks serve as driveways, and the backyard is the 10,000 islands.

'La Casa: Latin American Art' will be the Naples Art Association's second annual collaboration with ArtsNaples World Festival. From April 27 through June 1, 2013, artwork by local Latin American artists will be on view at the von Liebig Art Center. Featured artists include three Face Award alumni (JAMA: 2011, Lucy Correa Ryback: 2012, and Juan Diaz: 2013) and pieces from the Naples Museum of Art collection.

Living Waters: Aquatic Preserves of Florida, a collection of 29 black-and-white photographs by preeminent Florida photographer Clyde Butcher, will be on exhibit from May 2 through Nov. 14 at the Rookery Bay Environmental Learning Center art gallery, 300 Tower Road in Naples. Since 2004 the artistic and educational exhibition has traveled the state to increase awareness of and appreciation for Florida’s 41 aquatic preserves. The 110,000-acre Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve encompasses two of those aquatic preserves and part of more than five million acres of diverse water landscape and coastal areas that are critical to Florida’s future. In conjunction with the exhibit, Rookery Bay will show the companion one-hour nature film documentary, —Living Waters: Aquatic Preserves of Florida.” The film includes an introduction and closing remarks by Butcher and was produced and directed by cinematographer Elam Stoltzfus.
