The well that caused the disastrous oil leak in the northern Gulf of Mexico has been finally and totally sealed, according to Commander Thad Allen of the Deepwater Horizon incident response team. Concrete was applied through a relief well and the well is no longer a threat to the Gulf environment. No oil from this leak ever flowed out of the northern Gulf, and none ever reached any shorelines in Southwest Florida. NOAA scientists say Naples and Marco Island beaches will remain oil free. Sadly, misperception is still an issue, with many people believing the entire Gulf of Mexico and its shorelines were impacted. With the Naples, Marco Island and Gulf Coast Everglades coastlines completely clear, there is no cause for worry about planning a visit to our area. You can visit our Beach Conditions Web page for information and links to Web cams. We look forward to welcoming you to our clear, clean and beautiful beaches this fall! |
