Lake Trafford to Get New Pier at Ann Olesky Park

Lake Trafford in Immokalee will soon have a new and much improved pier with gazebos, a fish cleaning station, grills, lighting and picnic benches, all paid for with tourist development tax dollars.

The Collier County Board of County Commissioners voted to award a $442,736 contract to Infinite Construction, LLC, for the replacement of the Ann Olesky Park Pier.

The 33-year-old pier is in disrepair and, after a structural inspection was performed, a full replacement of the pier structure was recommended. Under the contract, Infinite Construction will replace the pier within the existing footprint and provide lighting along the pier.

“This is an important project for the Immokalee community; one that will serve our residents and visitors who use the pier for fishing or just a place to come and enjoy the lake,” said District 5 Commissioner William L. McDaniel Jr., who represents Immokalee. “I want to thank my fellow commissioners for supporting this project, which will be a benefit to Immokalee and continue to honor the memory of Ann Olesky.”

The pier is named in honor of Ann Olesky, an Immokalee civic leader who spearheaded the grassroots effort to clean up Lake Trafford, prompting commissioners to name the park at Lake Trafford in her honor. Olesky, who died in 2004, was a popular face at the Lake Trafford Marina, the family business.

The replacement of the pier will be implemented using a safer design by adding galvanized wire mesh behind the side railing system and, to extend the life of the pier, the dock piles will be wrapped to protect them from degradation in the harsh marine environment.

The money will come from Tourist Development Council funds.
