6 Ways to Treat Dad to a Fun Father’s Day on Florida’s Paradise Coast

With fishing, golf, outdoor adventures, top-rated restaurants and more, the Naples area offers many great ways to celebrate Dad.

Don’t turn Father’s Day into Forgot-It Day. And, please, don’t buy Dad a pair of jeans or, heaven forbid, a tie. Backyard barbecues are great, but why not give him something he really deserves? Set up a special Father’s Day experience in Naples, Marco Island and the Everglades. There are countless fun things to do, but here are a few ideas to get your gift-giving / planning underway.

Book a Fishing Charter

Think Dad would like to reel in a trophy fish on his special day? The Paradise Coast is one of the most active and diverse fisheries in the Southeast. The area is renowned for its inshore fishing — in flats and the backcountry — plus fly-fishing in the Everglades, near-shore fishing in the Gulf, and lots more.

One of the most sought-after game fish in local waters is snook; they’re feisty and tricky to catch. To up the ante, go after giant tarpon, which range from 100 to 150 pounds. Other common species are redfish, sea trout, snapper, grouper, and wahoo. The Naples area has an army of expert fishing guides that book private or group fishing charters, and they’d love to hear your father shout “Fish on!”

Set Up a Golf Date

With around 90 golf courses in the area, Florida’s Paradise Coast offers an exhilarating golf experience whether Dad is a duffer or a 2-handicap. Many resorts offer incredible golf courses — like the Ritz-Carlton’s two prestigious Tiburon courses, designed by Greg Norman. They’re so good, they play host to professional events every year! The Naples area also features several top-notch public courses, and the myriad semi-private, members-only courses normally welcome the general public from May to October.

Plan An Outdoor Adventure

Talk about choices. Dad can have wet-and-wild water adventures by renting a personal watercraft and skimming across the waves. He can explore the area’s endless network of inland waterways on a guided eco-tour by kayak, where he’ll spot dolphins, manatees, gators, exotic birds and other wildlife. If he wants to check out an amazing place like no other, head to the Everglades for a hair-raising airboat ride.

Arrange a Family Feast

By all means, Dad’s got to eat. So whether it’s brunch, a late lunch or dinner — or all three — why not do it up right? Naples is known for its delicious dining, from seafood to steak and beyond.

If you’re staying at a resort, incredible brunches and sumptuous multi-course dinners are just a short walk from the room or suite. (You can dine at resort restaurants even if you’re not a guest.) Downtown Naples has an array of amazing independent eateries and fine dining restaurants, as well. Advance reservations are highly encouraged.

A Couple of Events Dad Might Like:

Cars & Coffee 239 — On every third Sunday, Mercato, an upscale shopping center in Naples, hosts a big gathering of automotive enthusiasts who love to show off their exotic cars. If Dad doesn’t have his own ride to show off, he can certainly browse the high-horsepowered eye candy! (9-11 a.m.)

Jay Mohr  — If Dad likes salty standup comedy, this committed smart aleck is sure to deliver the goods. (Off the Hook Comedy Club, Naples, 6:30 p.m.)
