The Marco Island Center for the Arts is proud to announce the installation of the captivating Dia de los Muertos Grass Walls in its courtyard, created by talented young artists participating in the Art Center's free Summer Children's Programs. This is the second year that young art students have created  a vibrant installation which is a testament to their artistic prowess and dedication as well as their instructor, Marjorie Pesek, a renowned installation artist with a rich portfolio of projects in Collier County.

Dia de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead, is a Mexican holiday that celebrates and honors the lives of deceased loved ones. The grass wall installation not only pays homage to this cherished tradition but also serves as a vital part of the ongoing recognition of Hispanic art and culture through "Arte Viva! A Celebration of Hispanic Art and Culture in Collier County."

Marjorie Pesek, whose expertise in art installations is well regarded, led the students through a creative journey, imparting her knowledge of the holiday and guiding them in constructing ofrenda-style art pieces to adorn the grass wall. The result is a stunning and heartfelt display that beautifully captures the spirit of Dia de los Muertos.

The young artists who contributed their talents to this year's exceptional project include Sophia Bellini, Hudson Clayton, Leah Dimitrov, Lilly Heitman, Eli Nowlin, Bria ODonnell, Ozzie Pestarino, Morgan Rohletter, Kim Tran, Ali Traver, Ava Craig, Jobie and Silas Hoskins, Emely Kerens, Sophia Longo, Charleigh and Presley Rodgers, and Abbie Savarino. Their dedication and artistic expression shine through in every detail of the installation.

"Arte Viva!" is a Collier County-wide festival that runs throughout the season, celebrating the rich and diverse culture of the Hispanic community. The Dia de los Muertos Grass Wall installation at the Marco Island Center for the Arts will be open to the public from October 6 to November 21, 2023, offering visitors an opportunity to immerse themselves in the creative exploration of this vibrant tradition.

The Marco Island Center for the Arts invites the community and visitors alike to come and experience this unique Dia de los Muertos Grass Wall installation, which stands as a testament to the power of art in bridging cultures and honoring cherished traditions.
