Moonlit Tram Tour at Fakahatchee
December 12, 2019
4:15 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.
Thanks to the Moon Lit Fakahatchee Tram Tours, you can now view the magnificent Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park under the illumination of a full moon. The "Ghost Rider" tram, named in honor of the famous Ghost Orchid found in the park, lets you tour the park without concentrating on the road. The Fakahatchee Preserve the largest state park in Florida is home to more orchid species than any other place on the North American continent and is also a haven for diverse wildlife and migratory birds.
The golden hours at the end of the day is prime time for photography and spotting some of the mammal residents of the Strand as well as birds settling in for the evening.
The 20-passenger tram is high and dry and will provide an excellent platform for viewing park features illuminated by moonlight. City-dwellers will be amazed at how their vision changes as their eyes adapt to the light the moon provides.
Experienced naturalists lead each tram tour and will demonstrate communication with denizens of the night, including fireflies, bats and owls. The tram is wheelchair accessible and some seats face backwards.
This approximately 2 1/2 hr tour is $35.00 per person, all proceeds go to support the Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park.
