Naples Philharmonic Masterworks - Lamsma Plays Bruch Violin Concerto

Making her Naples Philharmonic debut, Dutch violinist Simone Lamsma performs Bruch’s Violin Concerto, a soaring piece that has risen to take its place among the best-known and most popular violin concertos in the repertoire. Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra Music Director Daniel Raiskin also debuts with the Naples Philharmonic as he conducts the orchestra in performing Dvořák’s superbly emotive Symphony No. 7, written using Bohemian-inspired melodies to create a boisterous work intended to “make a stir in the world,” according to the composer. In his Seventh Symphony, Dvořák achieved what he set out to do: The symphony has been called Dvořák’s finest and greatest symphony and “among the greatest and purest examples in this art-form since Beethoven” by musicologist Donald Tovey, one of the composer’s contemporaries.
