The Naples Philharmonic performs Mahler’s enchanting Symphony No. 4. Joining the orchestra is Korean soprano and rising star Hera Hyesang Park, who recently signed a recording contract with Deutsche Grammophon and brings her incandescent voice to Mahler’s melodic reflection on innocence as she sings of a child’s idea of heaven — a recurring theme in Mahler’s oeuvre. German conductor Christian Reif, music director of the Lakes Area Music Festival and former resident conductor of the San Francisco Symphony, leads the orchestra and chorus on a program that also includes Brahms’ Schicksalslied (Song of Destiny), a choral work based on a dramatic poem by Friedrich Hölderlin and widely considered to be one of Brahms’ finest works.
