The Caracara Prairie Preserve "red" hiking trail has an active cattle lease, so dogs are not allowed. Caracara Prairie Preserve is home to crested caracaras, gopher tortoises, sandhill cranes, white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, swallow-tailed kites, and many more bird and animal species. The active cattle lease provides the additional adventure of seeing cows while hiking.
Recreational hunting is also available at Caracara Prairie Preserve through the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).
To access the Caracara Preserve Red Trail, you must park at the CREW Cypress Dome Trails entrance, then hike one mile through the CREW Dome Trails.
