Mac Stone "Cypress" Exhibit on View at Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary

udubon’s Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is set to host a new photography exhibit by Mac Stone from October 27, 2026, through March 31, 2027.

Set beneath the living canopy of Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary’s ancient cypress forest, this outdoor exhibit brings large-format photography into the landscape that inspired it. Featuring 50 to 60 prints mounted along the sanctuary’s iconic boardwalk, the exhibition transforms a traditional gallery experience into an immersive walk through one of America’s last great old-growth cypress swamps.

The work explores the rare wetland forests that remain after centuries of logging and development, revealing their scale, complexity, and quiet power. Through images of towering cypress trees, flooded forests, wildlife, reflections, textures, and hidden ecological relationships, visitors are invited to see these swamps not as dark or empty places, but as living cathedrals—ancient, fragile, and full of life.

The exhibition follows the release of Mac Stone’s latest book, Cypress: The Last Old-Growth Swamps, published by University Press of Florida. Many of the photographs in this collection have been recognized in international competitions and published by outlets including National Geographic, Audubon, The Nature Conservancy, bioGraphic, and others.

Mac Stone is a National Geographic photographer and explorer whose work focuses on raising awareness for threatened landscapes, wildlife, and wilderness areas around the world. In this exhibit, his photographs celebrate the beauty and ecological importance of old-growth cypress swamps while asking visitors to consider what remains, what has been lost, and what is still worth protecting.

Home to the largest old-growth bald cypress forest in North America, Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary offers visitors a rare chance to experience Florida’s wild beauty up close. Audubon’s Blair Visitor Center, Spurlino Foundation Discovery Center, and boardwalk, located at 375 Sanctuary Road W. in Naples, are open daily at 8 a.m., with last admission at 1 p.m. during the summer/fall season. Hours extend for the winter/spring season (December 1 through April 30), with last admission at 3 p.m. The Center also features a Nature Store stocked with locally made gifts, plus snacks and beverages for purchase. Regular admission is $17 for adults, $6 for children ages 6-14, and free for children under 6 and Sanctuary members.
