FOURTH “ART FLICKS” FILM TO BE SHOWN ON MARCH 11TH
Marco Island, FL—February 24, 2025—The Marco Island Center for the Arts will show the fourth and last of the four films in the 2025 Art Flicks series themed “Happy Endings” at 1010 Winterberry Drive at 10AM on Tuesday, March 11th.
This last film, “Shirley Valentine,“ is based on a 1986 British play of the same title. Feeling trapped in a world of domesticity, Shirley, a middle-aged
housewife from Liverpool, England, needs a change in her life before she has another conversation with the walls of her kitchen. When her friend Jane invites her on a trip to a Greek island, Shirley jumps at the chance. But upon landing, Jane ditches Shirley for a fling leaving her to her own devices. Shirley wanders the island, meets a Greek taverna owner, and begins an unexpected journey of discovering herself as she rekindles her childhood dreams and youthful love of life. According to critics, this film is “a bit of romantic whimsy, that affords a great many comfortable and comforting laughs and may even serve as a wake-up call for some.”
The Art Flicks series was originally launched in January of 2014 and ran for seven years before COVID shut it down. It began as a way to feature FREE theme-based films, FREE refreshments, followed by lively discussions for both residents and island visitors who are interested in the art and wonder of film. The series was re-launched this past January.
The line forms outside the Art Center starting around 9:15am, with Art Center doors opening for the start of the program by 9:30am. Seats will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Each film’s introduction starts at 10am. All films will be shown with subtitles for a better movie going experience.
“While the movie and refreshments are always free, we ask for donations at the end of each film, with 100% of the money presented to the Art Center,” commented committee chair Joan Gerberding. “Our patrons have been very generous, allowing us to donate up to $2,000 per year to the Art Center.”
