Marco Island Center for the Arts Announces Upcoming Production of Neil Simon’s Classic Comedy, “Last of the Red Hot Lovers”
December 13, 2024 Marco Island, FL — The Marco Island Center for the Arts is excited to announce the upcoming production of Neil Simon’s beloved classic, “Last of the Red Hot Lovers”, running from January 8 to January 26, 2025. Directed by Cheryl Duggan, this witty and insightful play explores the complexities of life, love, and midlife crises with Simon’s signature humor and sharp wit.
Barney Cashman, the play's protagonist, is a 47-year-old man who, despite being happily married, is feeling the weight of a midlife crisis. A successful businessman, father of three, and well-established in his life, Barney realizes that the word that best sums up his existence is “nice.” But as he grapples with his sense of dissatisfaction, he comes to understand that “nice” just isn’t enough anymore.
The talented cast includes Mitch Frank as Barney Cashman, Christi Lueck-Sadiq as Elaine Navazio, Dixie Huey as Bobbi Michelle, and Betsy Greenblatt as Jeanette Fisher. Each actor brings their unique flair to their roles, capturing the humor and humanity of Simon’s characters.
“Last of the Red Hot Lovers” delves into the comedy and complications of navigating midlife and self-discovery, with hilarious and touching moments that speak to anyone who has ever questioned the path they are on.
Performances will take place at the Arts Center Theatre at the Marco Island Center for the Arts, with showings from Wednesday to Friday at 7:30 pm and Saturday-Sunday matinees at 3:00 pm. The production will run from January 8 through January 26, 2025.
